How it works

How a public adjuster claim works, in five steps.

Five steps from the first call to a check in hand. Here is what working with a public adjuster looks like, from the first conversation to the final payment. You stay informed, and every decision about your property stays yours.

Three things to do in the first 48 hours

  1. Stop further damage: shut off water, tarp the roof, board openings. Keep every receipt.
  2. Photograph and video everything before cleanup. Do not throw damaged items away yet.
  3. Report the loss, then call us before you give a recorded statement or accept an offer.

The steps

What happens, and when.

Every claim is different, but the path is the same.

  1. Free review

We read your policy and the carrier's letters and tell you where you stand. If you do not need a public adjuster, we will say so.

  2. Sign and start

You sign a written contract that spells out your fee and cancellation rights. We then notify the carrier that we represent you.

  3. Inspect and document

Room-by-room inspection, photos, measurements and a full contents inventory. We price the repairs in Xactimate, the same software most carriers use.

  4. File and negotiate

We submit a supported claim, answer the carrier's questions and negotiate the scope. If you and the carrier cannot agree on the amount of loss, we can support you through your policy's appraisal process.

  5. Settle and rebuild

You review the settlement, then choose your own contractor to make repairs. We do not select or direct who does your repairs.

What to have ready.

You do not need all of it to call. Whatever you have helps us give you a straight answer sooner.

  • Any claim number and adjuster contact
  • Estimates, denial or offer letters
  • Photos and video of the damage

Your rights

You stay in control of your claim.

You never have to hire one

Filing a claim yourself is always an option. We will tell you honestly whether your claim is a good fit.

Your fee is in writing

Your exact fee is stated in a written contract before work begins.

You can cancel

Your contract spells out your cancellation rights, which vary by state. In Idaho you have three business days after signing to cancel by written notice.

You choose your contractor

You decide who makes your repairs. We do not select or direct your contractor.

Timing

How long does a claim take?

It depends on the size of the loss and the carrier. Many settle within a few months; larger or disputed claims take longer. We keep you updated at each stage.
